Splunk - Driving Security Content Adoption & Automation

Date

2024

Location

Denver, CO

Challenge:

At Splunk, security customers struggled with content discoverability and adoption. Security rules and updates were scattered across three different locations, making it difficult for users to implement and track releases and stay current with updates. Additionally, the lack of structured automation significantly slowed down adoption, causing frustration among users.

My Role & Approach:

- Leadership in Chaos:
- In a rapidly evolving environment, I stepped in to provide clarity and leadership for a disjointed security content process. The existing systems lacked alignment, so I took charge to provide direction and focus for the team and customers.
- I facilitated cross-functional collaboration, ensuring teams from security content, engineering and product management aligned on priorities and goals to drive adoption.
- Gap Analysis & Strategic Design:
- Conducted a thorough gap analysis to identify the missing success metrics for security content, revealing the pain points and areas for improvement.
- Designed and implemented a centralized security content discovery framework, consolidating fragmented resources into a unified, accessible platform for users.
- Advocacy for Automation & Version Management:
- Advocated for automation and version management of security content, ensuring it became a top executive priority (released in E.S. 8.0).
- Worked closely with executives and stakeholders to align on the strategic importance of automation in driving faster content adoption.
- Onboarding Optimization:
- Streamlined the onboarding workflows for security teams, ensuring they could quickly access and apply updates without friction and reducing ramp-up time.

Key Outcomes:

- 12% increase in security content adoption within six months, thanks to improved discoverability and streamlined workflows.
- Introduced success & health tracking metrics for security content, allowing teams to measure adoption and content impact.
- Reduced onboarding time from 10 weeks to 3 weeks, significantly speeding up time-to-value for security teams.
- Improved automation and self-service capabilities for security teams, enabling them to more effectively track and manage security content updates.
