Cognizant – Real-Time COVID-19 Population Management Platform

When Abbott initially launched the BinaxNOW professional COVID‑19 test in August 2020, production capacity couldn’t keep pace with surging demand for at-home, over-the-counter testing. Testing sites lacked access and millions of people around the globe were left without timely results.

I took over the BinaxNOW population management platform, building a cross-functional team from scratch and leading the shift from pilot to a production system capable of supporting mass-market distribution.

My Role

Stepped in to Lead at Scale:
Took over the BinaxNOW population management platform and distribution program, recruiting a cross-functional team (manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, digital health, and regulatory) to close the scaling gap.

Built New Capabilities:
Established core workflows for manufacturing, regulatory compliance, eCommerce logistics, digital result capture (NAVICA app) and next-day distribution—turning a fragile pilot into a resilient system.

Orchestrated Cross-Functional Execution:
Coordinated daily stand-ups across engineering, lab, operations and app teams to synchronize priorities around buildout targets, supply constraints and regulatory milestones.

Optimized for Speed & Scale:
Refined production pipelines and distribution processes to target 50 million tests per month capacity—unlocking BinaxNOW’s potential as a mass market solution


Strategic Outcomes
Enabled Abbott to ramp production from pilot to 50 million tests/month by October 2020
Supporting launch of NAVICA digital health app, enabling rapid, at-home result display and scaled to 30–90 million tests in the first half of 2021
Unlocked operations to reach 50M monthly throughput—ensuring supply continuity to labs, employers, schools, and households


Why It Matters
This project was a zero-to-one scaling effort transforming BinaxNOW from a promising pilot into a mass-market public health tool. My leadership enabled Abbott to dramatically increase access to reliable testing during critical phases of the pandemic.
